My car has been smelling genuinely bad, and I had no plan what was causing the problem.
Every one of us got this car a few weeks ago, and for free, and I didn’t guess what to expect. A free car will have problems, and I knew that a tree had fallen on the car, and there were a lot of other problems besides that one… Besides this, the defrost gas furnace on the back window didn’t work, and the a/c also wasn’t working well. In fact, the Heating and A/C system, in general, had a lot of quirks that I knew I was going to have to power through. However, that didn’t bother me nearly as much as the smell did. I didn’t have a clue what was causing it. I did notice that the smell got worse when I was cranking the Heating and A/C equipment in the car. I usually only used the heater in the car while all of us were in the Winter season. Since the a/c didn’t work, I didn’t notice the rank smell immediately. In order to cool myself off, I would turn the Heating and A/C system off completely and roll down the window. However, as the temperatures grew colder, I turned the furnace off and on and observed the smell. I took the car to a mechanic to see what else he could learn about the car, and he told me that he suspected that some mice had built a little nest in the Heating and A/C system in the car. In most cars, this means that you will never completely get the smell out of the Heating and A/C system. However, this car had access points for the Heating and A/C system, allowing you to vacuum out the ducts and manage the rank smell. He also managed to maintenance my a/c undoubtedly easily. However, I cannot complain too much. It was a free car!
